Hot Peppers - Grow, Harvest, & Cook

This site contains everything you need to know about getting started with growing your own hot peppers.  We'll also provide information about what to do with all your peppers come harvest time - there are many ways to cook, process, and store your prize crop.

Periodically we'll add fun and unique hot pepper related products that you'll be able to purchase.

We're just getting this site started, so bear with us for a little while until we're fully operational.

Getting Started

The focus of the information will be on growing your peppers in containers, although many of the techniques described can also be applied to in-ground gardening.

One of the best things about pepper plants is that they are self pollenating.  This means that you can grow them indoors or on a screened patio area and they will still produce peppers.

Our goal is to have all the information ready for you in time for the 2009 growing season.  You'll be able to follow along with us step by step!

Harvest & Cooking
As the plants are growing it's a good time to start getting your supplies ready for harvest time.  This part of our series will focus on the ways you can process and store peppers along with some great recipes for using your freshly picked ones.

What to Do Now

Right now is the time to be planning your crop for next year and preparing your seed order.  See Order Your Seeds for more details.

Also, I decided to try a little experiment and get some seeds going over the winter.  You can follow along in the Winter Experiment section.

Company Info

We're located in sunny Florida, but spent a good amount of time in the Northeast and Seattle areas where we also grew our peppers.  The techniques are generally the same, but in cooler climates with shorter growing seasons you will need to pick some varieties with a shorter maturity period.
